What Google is trying to figure out
When someone searches '[service] near me', Google has to answer three questions in milliseconds: who does this service, where are they, and which of them is most trustworthy. Local SEO is the work of answering those three questions clearly for every relevant query.
Google Business Profile is the foundation
Your GBP is the single most important asset in local search. Categories, services, products, photos, posts, Q&A and reviews all feed Google's understanding of what you do and how trustworthy you are.
Most GBPs we audit have 30–40% of fields blank. Filling them is often the single highest-ROI hour of work you'll do all year.
Citations and NAP consistency
Citations are mentions of your business name, address and phone (NAP) across the web — directories, trade bodies, chambers of commerce. Google uses citation consistency as a trust signal. If your phone number is listed three different ways across the web, Google's confidence drops.
Reviews are the biggest ranking signal
Volume, recency and rating all matter. A business with 50 recent 4.8-star reviews almost always outranks one with 200 older 4.2-star reviews. Build a system that asks every happy customer for a review, every time.
Local content and links
Service-area pages, town-specific content, local partnerships and press mentions all reinforce that you're a real business in a real place. Generic 'we cover all of [region]' content is weaker than dedicated pages per town.
